ABOUT THE FOUNDER


Rashad Shabaka-Burns has spent a distinguished 30-year career in the New Jersey Judiciary. On July 1, 2017, he was named director of the newly created Office of Probation Services in the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC).
As director, Shabaka-Burns provides guidance and oversight in 10 programs:

As director, Shabaka-Burns also provided leadership and direction to the probation conference and to 3,000 staff statewide in 21 local probation divisions including the central office and 6 Intensive Supervision regional offices.
Prior to his appointment as director, Shabaka-Burns has held several leadership positions throughout his career. From July 2011 to July 2017 he served as the trial court administrator for the Morris/Sussex Vicinage where he oversaw a multi-court system and directed and managed the vicinage’s nine divisions’ operations and administrative functions. Before his appointment as the TCA, Shabaka-Burns served as the assistant TCA/operations manager in the Morris/Sussex Vicinage; assistant chief/probation manager in Passaic County; EEO/AA officer in Passaic County; and assistant civil division manager in Passaic County.
Shabaka-Burns has been instrumental in building upon the legacy of New Jersey probation, creating a vision and implementing evidence-based practices (EBP) with fidelity and statewide consistency. Though his leadership, probation services has initiated many programs that will enhance services to clients and provide resources to staff. He has worked to strengthen collaborations with treatment providers, community supervision partners and communities. His administration is the first to include desistance measurements and to implement performance standards for child support collections and enforcement.
Shabaka-Burns is a member of the American Probation and Parole Association, the National Association of Probation Executives, the Mid-Atlantic Association of Corrections, the American Correctional Association, the International Association for Court Administration, and the National Association for Court Management. A graduate of William Paterson University Shabaka-Burns also graduated from the litigation management program at the Philadelphia Institute for Legal Studies.
